In baseball, the golden sombrero is a slang term used to describe a player's inglorious feat of striking out four times in a single game.
Russ Laribee struck out 8 times in 1981, becoming the only player with two golden sombreros in one game.

The feat of going 0-for-4 in a ballgame, striking out each time. Could also be known as 'a day at the office for Jim Edmonds.'
...and that makes the count one ball and two strikes to Edmonds, who is now one strike away from wearing the golden sombrero

Striking out 4 times in one game. If all 4 are done looking, you get the matching poncho.
Did Ryan Howard really just get another golden sombrero?
Of course....he did have 199 strike outs in 2007 and in 2008.

the rare feat of self-flagellating oneself four times in one day; also, striking out four times in one game; tremendously difficult for males over the age of 15; surprisingly easy for jason giambi
yes!! i just earned a golden sombrero, that puts to shame my hat trick from yesterday. i need a nap.

what a tragedy! derek jeter just shot jason giambi in the locker-room for being completely useless and afflecking his way to yet another golden sombrero

A cannabis/alcohol term that denotes the event when someone successfully performs four strikeouts in two hours or less.
Colin: Oh man, how many strikeouts has Pat done tonight?
Ray: Three!
Colin: One more and he has the Golden Sombrero!
Pat: Whoa guys, I'm getting kinda fucked up.
